Blogging 101 – Day 1

Hi,

I have been blogging for only a short while now but when I first started I realized that I did not know much about blogging at all so I decided to join blogging 101 to improve my blogging skills.

My name is Marybeth and I am getting ready to start the Spring semester of my sophomore year. I love rock music, writing and reading and I do both now whenever I have a chance. I haven’t done much writing yet but since I started my blog I have had a few ideas. When I am not at school I am usually reading about 10 books at once and I am constantly on Goodreads. When I am in college I still go to the library but I usually only get about 5 books read a month sometimes maybe less. I haven’t decided on what I want to do when I graduate but I am looking at writing or graphic designing at the moment.

When I am not reading, writing or going to school I am spending time with my family, hiking, playing video games and catching up on all the shows I have missed during the school semester.

Currently reading/to-read for December:

Hi,

So this is where i will post the books that i still need to finish and my list of books for the next month.

Bergren,  The banished of Muirwood by Jeff Wheeler, Inkheart by Cornelia Funke,  Miss Peregrine’s home for peculiar children by Ransom Riggs,  Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, Queen of shadows by Sarah J. Maas and In the Woods by Tana French.

Book review #2: The Farm (#1) by Emily McKay

Name: The Farm

Author: Emily Mckay

Genre: Paranormal>Vampires

Pages: 420 pg.

Rating: 4 stars

Summary from Goodreads: Life was different in the Before: before vampires began devouring humans in a swarm across America; before the surviving young people were rounded up and quarantined. These days, we know what those quarantines are—holding pens where human blood is turned into more food for the undead monsters, known as Ticks. Surrounded by electrical fences, most kids try to survive the Farms by turning on each other…

And when trust is a thing of the past, escape is nearly impossible.

Lily and her twin sister Mel have a plan. Though Mel can barely communicate, her autism helps her notice things no one else notices—like the portion of electrical fence that gets turned off every night. Getting across won’t be easy, but as Lily gathers what they need to escape, a familiar face appears out of nowhere, offering to help…

Carter was a schoolmate of Lily’s in the Before. Managing to evade capture until now, he has valuable knowledge of the outside world. But like everyone on the Farm, Carter has his own agenda, and he knows that behind the Ticks is an even more dangerous threat to the human race…

I thought this book was a lot better than i thought it would be. I got this a few years ago at Barnes and Nobles and it has been sitting on my shelf ever since until it got picked for a monthly challenge. I was a little hesitant to read it at first but once i got into it i really enjoyed it. I loved hearing from LIly, Carter and Mel’s viewpoints throughout the book.. This book was a completely different take on vampires and i was really surprised but i found that i really enjoyed it. In the story there are apparently the usual vampires and then there are the Ticks who from how i interpreted the scenes were humans who became something like vampires when an experiment that went wrong. Now there are Farms all over the country where kids stay because of the fear of the Ticks. Then you have the vampires like Sebastian who can sense the Ticks when they are near. I’m not quite sure what is going to happen next  but i am interested to see what happens next and i will definitely be looking at getting the next book. Overall i would rate this between 4-4.5 stars and would highly recommend it.

Monthly update

Hi,

I know it has been a while since i have posted but i am hoping to get back into it this month. I have been busy with school lately which has slowed down my review time and the amount of books that i normally read.

Right now though i am currently trying to finish Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers, Once a witch by Carolyn MacCullough, Timebound by Rysa Walker, Dead Ringer by Jessie Rosen, All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, Wings by Aprilynne Pike, Midnight for Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo and Eragon by Christopher Paolini. So far i am enjoying all of them but it is slow going since i am doing a lot of hw but i am hoping to do some catching up around thanksgiving break.

Book review #1: Opal (#3) by Jennifer Armentrout

Summary From Goodreads:
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger… and they know it.Series: Lux series

Title: Opal
Series: Lux
Author:jennifer L. Armentrout

This is by far my favorite series of the year. It started out slow for me but by the time i got to Opal i was pretty excited to see what happened next. I loved the plot and the characters in the story. I can’t wait to to see what happens in Origin.
